Early summer 1973, I’m in the garden relaxing and listening to the Alan Freeman Rock Show on Mums battered transistor radio. This 3 hour show on a Saturday afternoon was where you found new progressive rock bands…..ELP, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, etc.
Mid afternoon this track jumped out and putting my ear closer to the radio I heard the name Wishbone Ash and the single “So many things to say” from the recently released album Wishbone Four. It obviously hit me as I immediately set foot to the nearest decent record shop with my hard earned milk round money in hand.
Now, Amersham on the Hill is what it says on the tin ! Uphill all the way from Chesham but, for me it was simple, get there before closing time and I did ! Straight to the “W” section panic set in but, there it was, the latest Wishbone Ash album, Hey I had enough change from my fiver to get the single as well.
Now, having ran and marched up the hill it was a nice amble with treasures in hand back down the hill. Soon enough the stereo system was pumping out this great album and my start point to my life long love of everything Wishbone Ash.
Next stop the Rainbow Theatre
